Year of the Runaways - Sunjeer Sahota

Posted by Marilyn Thiessen

Nominated for the Man Booker Prize

This book resonates with the hardships and desperation that will drive humans to try and make a better life for themselves and their families.

It is the story of three young men and one woman as their lives come together in a journey from India to England.  Year of the Runaways takes us through the hardships that await them as they attempt to build a promising future. It speaks of the lengths they will go to attain that better life they are sure awaits in this new country.

To read The Year of the Runaways is perhaps one way we can take a glimpse into the lives of the many immigrants that are struggling to understand and fit into a new life in a new country away from the hardships they have faced.

Recommended Read for audiences appreciative of authors such as  Rohinton Mistry.
