If you're looking for a lighthearted approach to a self help book then this might be the one for you. Big Magic is unapologetic in its conversational writing style and the author encourages her readers to embrace their creativity with gusto.
Elizabeth Gilbert's foray through "Big Magic" provides many anecdotes and personal opinions. This is a feel-good book that has the intent to inspire. However, some stories might leave the reader feeling less than enthusiastic about Gilbert's opinions. Repeated statements that the author didn't intend this to be a self-help book, are belied by the title and marketing and even the tone and tenor of the writing.
Certain to incite debate among those who have strongly held opinions about the arts, creativity, and the self-help genre. Recommended for book clubs.
